Today I have been learning about a new service – ATryBox – ATryBox: Get Connected with Startups, Share Opinion, Get Paid.. This is a great way for companies to hire people to help them test new software, websites and services.

Just the other day I was approached by a stranger asking me to test his site. He told me all I would need to do would be going to his site, and answering a few questions about it. I was a bit puzzled, as I wasn’t sure whether my job would be testing his site, helping him set up his subscription box, or providing him with some programming and design advice. I am not truly proficient in any of these fields, and I wasn’t sure what to charge him for my services would I to provide them. So, I wasn’t sure how much to charge for this type of a service. In the end, it didn’t work out. Our communication with the business broke down, as I wasn’t sure what they wanted. I think if I were to communicate with this business through ATryBox as the third party, it would have worked better, as the business would have specified right away what they needed, and I could charge the market rate knowing what was going to be expected of me to do, how long it would take.

I think this is an awesome service to try. It is so easy to register there – you can just use one of your social network connections, and then your profile populates immediately on its own, and you simply need to fill out a few lines of questions to specify what services you can provide and your interests. That is on the side of the contractor. Contractors can help companies with usability tests, phone calls, and even face-to-face meetings to help out testing software, websites, or what have you. This is a great service that businesses often need. And, while businesses can find great new users to test their products, users, on the other hand, can get proper pay for the time they spend testing, and giving their advice and opinion. A contractor-user can make between $5 to $35 for various actions and activities, and for face-to-face meetings testers can pick how much they want to be paid.

So, if you are looking for something to do during your free time, and want to make a few dollars on the side while helping a company out, this is a great way to start – this pays much better than a lot of survey sites would, and so easy to start – no need to answer endless surveys just to find out you don’t qualify. Try it out, leave me a comment, tell me what you think.
