Bulletproof coffee

I have recently restarted a ketogenic diet after a yearlong hiatus. Previously, I would drink coffee with coconut oil in the morning to help me feel full and I would be able to make it to lunch without any carbs or hunger pangs. I have now discovered Bulletproof Coffee and I have noticed huge differences in how I feel in that period from waking up until lunch.

Bulletproof coffee

Bulletproof Coffee is Upgraded Coffee that contains grass-fed unsalted butter (actually clarified butter or ghee) and a dollop of Brain Octane Oil, which is made from 100% coconut oil. This may seem different from most people’s usual morning latte at Starbucks, but the differences are phenomenal. First of all, the Brain Octane Oil, composed of medium-chain triglycerides, helps me burn fat, and provides a reliable source of energy completely from fat. I have noticed that is also enhances my cognitive performance, which is great before starting work. I have found the cognitive enhancement is greater with Brain Octane Oil over regular coconut oil. The composition of the oil is purely 8-carbon triglyceride chains, rather than coconut oil, which is composed of 6- to 10-carbon chains. This purity may partly explain the greater cognitive enhancement and it certainly means a more neutral taste, and does not mask the pure coffee flavor I have grown to love. The most important benefit is that the energy from the butter and oil will keep hunger away and provide enough energy to take me to lunch. So, I am able to fast from 7pm the night before until 12pm the next day, a 17:7 cycle, which is perfect for intermittent fasting and weight loss.

Without sugar in the morning and at lunch, I don’t crash around 3 o’clock as many people on high-carb diets do. Bulletproof Coffee has become an important part of how I achieve this performance and I have noticed significantly more weight loss than when I would start the day with a 600-700 calorie bacon and egg breakfast. The coffee itself is higher quality than most grocery store coffee and is supposed to be resistant to fungus, which can produce toxins that can affect your health and performance. Bulletproof Coffee is a great way to start your day with healthy fats.

To make the coffee, I first use a standard drip method. I add one table spoon of ghee first when the coffee is hottest and the ghee will quickly melt. I then add 1 tablespoon of the Brain Octane Oil (that’s working my way up from 1 teaspoon), which is a liquid and quickly emulsifies into the coffee. I then use a cappuccino foamer to mix the fats and further improve the emulsification. This way you don’t have a layer of oil on top, which isn’t very appetizing. Starter kits are a great way to test out Bulletproof Coffee and see if it is for you – get yours at http://ca.bulletproof.com.
