Mashed Potato Casserole Recipe
Recipe type: Dinner, Lunch, Brunch
Cuisine: American/European
Two ingredients - cooked ground beef and mash - makes for an amazingly simple casserole recipe, and will delight even the picky eaters
  • ground beef (or any meat of your choice you have on hand, lamb works great in this dish)
  • onions (whatever you have - red onions, white onions or shallots)
  • spices you like for your beef - I added Chinese five spice mix, and some fresh herbs
  • mashed potatoes - either make your own from scratch or use packaged mashed potatoes
  • a bit of parmesan or any other cheese you like for the top
  1. Fry onions until they are translucent in oil or butter.
  2. Add beef, cook until doneness.
  3. Prepare mashed potatoes according to package directions or your own recipe from scratch.
  4. Divide mashed potatoes into halves.
  5. Use a casserole dish suitable for the amount of meat and mashed potatoes you have.
  6. Place half of mashed potatoes on the bottom of the casserole dish. Cover the mash with your cooked meat.
  7. Place the second half of your mashed potatoes on top of the beef. I used a piping bag with my chosen tip to decorate the top of the casserole dish.
  8. Sprinkle your cheese on top of the dish.
  9. Cook at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Your dish is pre-cooked, so you are just melting the cheese on top, and reheating the dish essentially.
  10. You can also use the broiler at the end for extra browning.
  11. Enjoy!
