I have recently received a small tower of two boxes of chocolates to try out. Not an ordinary set of chocolates I have to say.
Well, when I was growing up, chocolates were more of a treat to us. My grandmother used to get boxes of chocolates home from work, gifts of her patients. We were able to try all kinds of chocolates back then, mostly European, the mass produced kind. Back then this was the top of the line in chocolates one could possibly get where I used to live at.
Later on in life I developed a much more refined taste in chocolate when I tried some in North America. Most chocolate here is quite sophisticated in terms of production techniques – you can find now bacon and flower infused chocolate, something we would never hear of in the past. Certainly, things have changed. I think that chocolates have come a long way as well….
There is a lot of experimentation that is going on now with chocolate companies. It is not about making some standard milk chocolate right now. It’s about making a product that will tantalize imagination, bring back memories, and inspire imagination. Chocolatiers work on creating flavors that will be memorable, and can create an experience.
Still, most chocolates we find around us, even in more upscale grocery stores, are largely mass produced. The flavors are always the same, the look is similar, and I no longer know exactly which brand I get when I am shopping for chocolate – they all look similar, bars of bizarre art on them, exact same shape, color and form. There are a few off favorites that are known in our area that we buy on occasion that are outstanding chocolates, but there is often no personality about those, no special purpose or meaning attached to them. They are just chocolates stacked in a boring brown box.
I think there is something magical about making homemade chocolate. I have made it a couple of times, and extremely enjoyed the experience. It has been a while since I made some, I am a bit out of practice, not that I have even been known to be a great chocolatier at all. However, my most favorite type of chocolate is truffles, and I loved the regular Italian truffles that are sometimes available in stores. When I found out years ago that it is actually possible to make truffles at home, I immediately made them. I have to say it was a messy business, in other words I don’t know what I am doing when it comes to truffles. I produce a mess of chocolate buttery balls that are delicious, and could be potentially eaten immediately by a hungry glutton to his/her demise, yet they are delicious. When I have tried making truffles by myself, I realized how difficult it actually is producing chocolates at home, keeping everything clean and tidy while making them, without getting head to toe covered in sticky mess and cocoa powder.
I have to say I take my hat off to chocolate makers, creators of flavors. Now imagine handmaking those chocolates into practically works of art.
I cannot quite show what those chocolates are like in real life. I got chocolates to try from Black Dinah Chocolatiers from Maine, and though I put my best effort into making several flatlays with these chocolates, my pictures don’t quite do them justice.
Receiving this medium tower of chocolates from Black Dinah Chocolatiers was one of the most exciting experiences. The quality of the chocolates is superb, and thinking of them that they are handmade makes the whole experience that much more precious.
These chocolates arrived perfectly packaged, and tied in a beautifully presented tower of two boxes, with a map attached. These chocolates are produced in the state of Maine by a husband and wife team, and are a quintessence of opulence, elegance, character and style. The presentation is very elevated – this is the type of a gift that whoever you send it to will remember forever. The chocolates that are included transport you to the state of Maine as the flavors are all of the farm produce from Maine that this company could find – everything is sourced from local farmers what goes into the chocolates, so you would literally be tasting Maine with every chocolate bite. The chocolate itself is single-origin sourced from the best producers.
This type of a product is not the kind of a product that you will ever forget. These chocolates have so much power in them – they can convey a lot of messages. They will truly make a perfect gift – they show care, respect, and high style – their flavors are impeccably perfect, a very high quality and high value product.
One of the boxes contains 8 pieces of Flagship Sea Salt Caramels.
The second box in the tower contains an 18-piece Farm Market Truffle Collection. Almost each truffle looks different, there are 11 rotating varieties in all.
I took some pictures of the boxes just to show the beauty of these chocolates.
When you get this box, it feels like you are unraveling a story as you open up the ties on the box. It’s a story of a truly unique handmade product, created by devoted artisans of their trade, Black Dinah Chocolatiers. This is a small scale product made with care, styled to perfection, and created as such a meaningful product. These chocolates are there to create a journey of indulgence and allow the person gifted with these to savor the flavors of the region of Maine, feel the atmosphere of locally grown products transformed into something so elevated. This product was born due to the dedication and meticulousness of Black Dinah team, creating the most premium and delicious product that one can find, truly the best chocolate, and a perfect holiday or special occasion gift.
